Working together for a healthier Neshaminy Creek

WatershedWork is a community partnership helping residents and municipalities reduce stormwater runoff and pollution in the Neshaminy Watershed.

What's happening in the Neshaminy Watershed?

The Neshaminy Watershed covers a large area of Bucks County. Over time, land has changed from forests and farms to neighborhoods, roads, and shopping centers. Hard surfaces like rooftops, driveways, and parking lots don't absorb rainwater.

As land changes from forest to developed areas, less water soaks into the ground and more runs off into streams

When it rains, more stormwater runs quickly into storm drains and local streams. This extra volume can cause erosion, carry pollution, and damage habitat for fish, wildlife, and plants in and along the Neshaminy Creek.

Increasingly intense storm events in our region add even more water in shorter periods, making these challenges worse.

The good news is that small changes on individual properties, combined with coordinated municipal efforts, can significantly reduce these impacts.

What can be done

Here are a broad set of strategies that we are pursuing to help our watershed:

  • Open Space Preservation and Management – Protecting and caring for natural lands to maintain habitat, water quality, and community value.
  • Municipal Stormwater Management Improvements – Enhancing infrastructure and practices to reduce flooding, runoff, and pollution.
  • HOA Common Area Land Management – Guiding HOAs to maintain shared landscapes in eco-friendly, low-impact ways.
  • Residential and Commercial Conservation Landscaping – Using native plants and sustainable design to reduce runoff and support local ecosystems.
  • Improved Housekeeping / Pollution Reduction – Encouraging everyday practices that prevent contaminants from entering waterways.
  • Volunteering / Community Involvement – Mobilizing residents to participate in stewardship, cleanup, and restoration activities.

The community portal includes step-by-step guides, event signups, and workshops to help you take the next step.

For municipalities

The Neshaminy Consortium is a partnership of municipalities and organizations working together to reduce stormwater impacts in the watershed. By coordinating efforts, municipalities can share tools, reduce costs, and strengthen MS4 compliance.

Participating municipalities receive:

  • Facilitated collaboration on watershed priorities and shared projects
  • Turnkey public education materials aligned with MS4 MCM1
  • Public involvement programming aligned with MS4 MCM2 requirements
  • Grant support including alerts, coordination, and multi-municipal proposals
  • Shared resources such as templates, training, meeting materials, and datasets

To explore whether Consortium membership is a good fit for your municipality, we invite elected leaders and professional staff to contact us directly.
